It stores hydraulic pressure energy, compensates for oil leakage, absorbs hydraulic shock, stabilizes system pressure, and provides instantaneous flow. Many hydraulic station users face problems such as pressure drop, unstable clamping, loud vibration and short service life due to incorrect accumulator selection.
This professional selection guide explains how to choose the right hydraulic accumulator according to working conditions, system pressure and equipment requirements.
There are three common types of hydraulic accumulators on the market: bladder type, piston type and diaphragm type.
Bladder accumulators are the most widely used in industrial hydraulic power units, automation fixtures and small hydraulic stations.

Pressure matching is the most critical step for accumulator service life.
2.1 The accumulator rated pressure must be 1.25 times higher than the maximum system working pressure
2.2 Never use an accumulator with lower pressure than the hydraulic station peak pressure
For small hydraulic power units (0.75KW–1.5KW, 0–16Mpa), the commonly selected accumulator pressure is 10Mpa and 16Mpa.
Volume selection depends on your working purpose.
Small volume (0.4L–1.6L) is enough for single cylinder fixture clamping. It compensates slight oil leakage and keeps stable clamping pressure for a long time.
If your equipment needs fast cylinder extension and instant large flow, choose medium volume (1L–2.5L) to provide instantaneous hydraulic energy.
Small volume accumulator is ideal for eliminating pump pulsation and solenoid valve impact noise.
Pre-charge pressure directly determines whether the accumulator works normally.
4.1 Pressure maintaining condition: pre-charge pressure = 60%–85% of system minimum working pressure
4.2 Shock absorption condition: pre-charge pressure = 80%–90% of normal working pressure
Only pure nitrogen can be charged. Air and oxygen are strictly forbidden to avoid safety risk.

Bladder accumulators must be installed vertically with the oil port downward for best performance and longer service life.
